Aluminium castings, in sand or gravity dies

Aluminium is a third of the weight of iron, flows into thin sections and stays pressure-tight when it is cast properly. We pour it both ways: in sand for one-offs and smaller runs, and in gravity dies once a part repeats often enough to justify the tooling.

Alloys

LM-6 (Al-Si12) is the grade we pour most: it flows well, fills thin walls and is forgiving in the mould, which is why it suits housings and covers. If your drawing names a different aluminium alloy, tell us at the quotation stage and we will confirm whether we can supply it.

Where aluminium is the right choice

Not every part should be aluminium. These are the cases where it usually is:

  • The part has to be light, or it moves and the weight matters
  • Walls are thin and iron would be hard to fill
  • The housing has to hold pressure or oil without weeping
  • Corrosion resistance matters more than hardness
  • The part is machined heavily and you want it to cut easily

Machined and finished here

Bores, seal seats, flanges and threaded ports are machined on the same site, so the casting allowances are set by the people who cut the metal. Castings are blasted and dressed before machining, and primed or painted where you want them that way.

Parts we pour in aluminium

Tractor steering box bodies and their cover plates are regular work for us in LM-6, cast with cores and machined to drawing. Housings, covers, brackets and thin-walled enclosures are the usual shapes.

05FAQ

Questions customers ask

Sand casting or gravity die casting for my aluminium part?

Quantity decides it. Sand suits one-offs and small runs because there is no die to pay for. A gravity die costs more up front but gives a better surface, closer repeatability and less machining stock, so it pays back over a recurring order. Tell us your annual quantity and we will say which is cheaper for you.

Can you cast an aluminium part from a sample?

Yes. We measure the sample, restore worn surfaces in the model, make the pattern and pour it. This is routine for discontinued housings and covers.

Will the casting hold pressure?

LM-6 is chosen partly for that. Tell us at the start if the part must be pressure-tight in service, since it affects how we gate and feed the casting.

Tell us what you need made.

A drawing, a CAD file or a worn sample part is enough to start. We are in Korangi, Karachi, and we answer on WhatsApp.
